BUMP Bouldering Sunway Square
📍 Bandar Sunway, Selangor
BUMP Bouldering at Sunway Square is a large, well-lit gym with a good mix of beginner to advanced routes. An auto-belay section with rentable harnesses suits first-timers. Best for children 8+.
New BUMP outlet at Sunway Square. Big, bright, and the route density is pretty good. The setting is fun and there is plenty to climb across grades One thing to note, the wall texture is unusually abrasive right now. It is a new gym, so I expect it to mellow out over time (or not haha), but just be ready for faster skin wear on your first few sessions. Facilities wise: - No board e.g., Moon / Kilter when I went - Warm up & cool down area feels incomplete for now, not much training gear yet e.g., bands, hangboards, basic warm up equipment, assuming its still coming in Overall, I enjoyed the session & I will be back. Good potential here once the training corner fills up and the walls break in a bit
🏆 Family Action Verdict
Best for families with children 8+ trying climbing for the first time. The beginner route selection is strong and the auto-belay section removes the need for climbing experience. Visit on a weekday outside school holidays for the most manageable experience. Bring grip tape if skin sensitivity is a concern.

“Exactly what I expected from a new climbing gym. Relatively doable routes, nice vibes, great views, though the walls are rough. But that’s a given. Will get smoother over time.”

“The bouldering routes offer a good mix of mostly beginner-friendly problems, along with a fair number of more challenging routes suited for stronger and more experienced climbers. In addition, there is an autobelay section available, and harnesses can be rented on-site for those who do not have their own. During the visit, the majority of climbers appeared to be beginners, many using rental shoes, and the overall crowd skewed relatively young. The gym was particularly crowded on Boxing Day, likely due to the long weekend and school holidays, so some waiting time can be expected for popular routes. One notable drawback is the ventilation on the upper levels. The air conditioning there appeared to be non-functional, resulting in a warm and stuffy environment that could affect comfort during longer sessions. The toilet and shower facilities could also be improved, as there is limited space to place or hang personal belongings, which makes changing and showering less convenient. Lastly, no soap or shampoo is provided in the shower areas, and there is no water dispenser available on-site, which may be inconvenient for visitors planning extended climbing sessions. Regarding comments about the wall texture being too rough, this was not something I personally found bothersome. It may simply be a matter of personal preference or what climbers are accustomed to. If this is part of the gym’s intended design, those who prefer a different style have many other climbing gyms in the Klang Valley that cater to various climbing preferences. Overall was a good experience and i will definitely come back here again to climb.”

“To preface this, I am a beginner climber so my review here will focus less on the course and more on the facility itself. To start, I think the course difficulties felt exactly as labelled - level ones were easy enough, and the harder levels were challenging enough. That said, I wish there were more elaborate briefings for beginner climbers, considering that this is a dangerous sport. I noticed a staff member surveying the premise to check on people, which I really appreciated. I was nicely told to remove my plastic bottle off the mat, which was my bad since I wasn't paying attention! However, I do wish this happened more frequently though because of my next point. I noticed several groups of climbers sitting/chatting on the mats itself. Borderline hogging it seems. At one point my bf and I were waiting for people to MOVE OUT OF THE WAY so we could fall properly as they were occupying literally half the space. My bf in fact knocked into a person that was sitting near him. In the end the person still didn't move... That itself should be a safety hazard and I expected the staff to get them off the mat. Instead, they left them be and we weren't able to play a big chunk of the wall at all. Maybe to amend this, the studio should implement more benches for people to sit on. Or, just nicely tell them off like how they did with my water bottle situation. I just don't think people are specially aware. I understand these problems can come with higher traffic, but the studio should provide spaces for such situations. That said, I really appreciated how beginner friendly the courses were. They were genuinely enjoyable. It was just a pity that we couldn't try more because it just wasn't safe for us to do so.”

Overview
BUMP Bouldering Sunway Square is a spacious, brightly lit climbing gym with routes spanning beginner to advanced grades. An auto-belay section allows roped climbing without a partner, with harnesses available to rent. Wall texture is notably abrasive on the new surfaces — expect faster skin wear in the first few sessions. School holiday periods draw significant crowds.
