Muzium Diraja Kuala Kangsar (Istana Kenangan)
📍 Kuala Kangsar, Perak
A royal museum in the historically significant Istana Kenangan — a palace built entirely without nails using traditional Malay joinery. Free entry. Visit takes around 15 minutes. Part of Kuala Kangsar's royal town circuit.
Visited during Deepavali 2025. Repainting work in progress but this tiny istana still open. A must visit place if you are in Kuala Kangsar. Probably just requires 15 minutes to appreciate the existence of this building that we probably don't care why it even existed and how important it was in the past. But for me, i simply love this kind of historical places
🏆 Family Action Verdict
Best for families with older children curious about traditional Malay architecture and royal history. The 15-minute visit length is ideal for younger attention spans as part of a broader Kuala Kangsar itinerary.

Overview
Muzium Diraja Kuala Kangsar occupies Istana Kenangan, a palace constructed using traditional Malay techniques without a single nail — the joinery and weaving methods alone are worth examining closely. The building is painted in a distinctive yellow and stays noticeably cooler than the surrounding grounds even on hot days. Exhibits cover the Perak Sultanate and Malaysian royal history. Ongoing renovation work is in progress and the museum remains open. Toilets and parking are available on-site.
