Sungai Petang Kelah Sanctuary
📍 Perak
A conservation sanctuary in Kenyir Lake area offering close-up kelah fish feeding in a natural waterfall pool. Requires a 1–2.5km jungle hike with steep concrete staircases.
Amazing place, must visit, one of most unique experiences ever with the fish and the location/staff are the best!
🏆 Family Action Verdict
Best for active families with school-age children who can manage a 1–2.5km hike with elevation changes and steep steps. The fish-feeding experience is genuinely memorable and unlike any zoo encounter. Not accessible for prams, toddlers who cannot walk independently, or anyone with mobility limitations.

“A great and outstanding location for nature lovers. Meet the rare species of IKAN KELAH. You can play whole feeding them. As an advice, buy more than 3 packets of fish food at the shop near the hanging bridge. You will regret if you buy less😂. Its a 1.6 km of walking on trail that we'll manage. Magnificent experience. Will coming back one day. 👍. Ticket price Is RM15 not including boat transfer. They also provide a day tour for those not coming with houseboat.”

“Kelah sanctuary is the highlight of Kenyir Lake. Is fun to have close contact with lots of Kelah fish. Must buy fish feed rm2 pkt. The hanging brigde is broken so boat stop at 2nd jetty just walk 950m concrete staircase up and down. Can use the toilet at the jetty tower only (toilet at the sanctuary is closed) , but no water and no hangers for clothings.”

Overview
Sungai Petang Kelah Sanctuary is home to rare and expensive ikan kelah, accessed via a 1–2.5km trail through jungle terrain and steep concrete staircases. Visitors feed the fish directly at the waterfall pool. The hanging bridge is sometimes out of service, adding distance to the alternative jetty route. Fish food is sold near the entry point and reviewers strongly recommend buying multiple packets. Toilet facilities are sparse to the jetty tower.
