Balik Pulau Paddy Field
📍 Kampung Terang, Penang
Photogenic paddy fields in Balik Pulau with mountain backdrops, golden-hour light, and fresh country air. Remote location with minimal facilities. Own transport required.
Took a Grab from Georgetown (45rm) visited on a Monday and there was no one around. Great for pictures, bring your tripod! Sun is merciless. Pls bring an umbrella or day jacket. Very peaceful and pretty (fields of green!) but nothing much to do. No stalls that sell food or drinks nearby so pls have your meal before that or bring your own food. I heard that you can rent bicycles but we didn’t see any bike rental shops around. There is a seafood restaurant (Jia Siang Cafe) about 3km away but there was no Grab to drive us there so we WALKED FOR AN HOUR UNDER THE SUN. Very painful walk as it was very very very hot but the food was great! We saw some goats, cows, cats on the one hour journey 😂
🏆 Family Action Verdict
Families with older children who appreciate open-air photography and nature walks will enjoy the peaceful landscape. The remote setting and intense midday sun make it impractical for families with toddlers or those expecting amenities. Early morning or late afternoon arrivals avoid the heat and catch the best light.

“The paddy fields in Balik Pulau offer a serene escape from the busy streets of Georgetown, Penang. The lush green fields are particularly beautiful during planting and harvesting seasons, with the golden hues of sunrise and sunset adding to the scenery. The area is quiet and peaceful, perfect for relaxation and reflection. Situated in a remote location, the fields feature a unique container with artistic drawings, providing a popular spot for photos. While there isn’t much else to do, the natural charm and tranquility make it a pleasant getaway for those seeking a break from the city.”

“A very peaceful and beautiful place, especially during sunset. The scenery of the paddy fields with mountains in the background feels calming and refreshing. The air is fresh, the surroundings are quiet, and it’s perfect for a short walk, photography, or just to relax and clear your mind. A great spot to enjoy nature and slow down from the busy city life. Highly recommended for nature lovers.”

Overview
Balik Pulau Paddy Field offers expansive rice terraces framed by forest-covered hills — a landscape that changes character between the green planting season and golden harvest. The scenery peaks at sunrise and sunset when light catches the fields and mountains. A roadside nasi and bakso stall sits nearby. No formal facilities, no shade structures, and no public transport access — bring supplies and own transport.
