Cat Beach Sanctuary 猫沙滩
📍 Teluk Bahang, Penang
Volunteer-run rescue cat sanctuary in Teluk Bahang with free entry. Dozens of friendly cats — many will climb onto laps and shoulders. Strong outdoor smell from sand toileting areas is normal for the setting.
Very welcomed to go this place when you at Penang. Can experience alot with cats and see how the ppl helping the cats with vaccinations and spaying before freeing the cats at beach! Totally free. Appreciate ppl to help donating the cat foundations!!! Or bring cat food for the cats and the foundations! Got 3 foundations there. Can donate to all of them! Whenever you come to George town it is very closeby like 30mins drive. Come and have a look! Or 5mins from Batu feringhi. And free parking All the cats are available for adoption! Feel free to bring cat home! 😁
🏆 Family Action Verdict
Excellent for families with animal-loving children who want meaningful hands-on contact with cats. Children comfortable around animals will be delighted — cats actively seek attention and climb onto visitors.

“Loved our visit to the Cat Beach Sanctuary. The cats are super affectionate and will happily sit on your lap and even climb onto your shoulders (see picture). The volunteers are incredibly kind and clearly care a lot about the cats. We got some lick sticks to feed the cats which was fun. It does smell a bit since some cats use the sand as their toilet, but that’s to be expected. Definitely worth a visit for any cat lover. Make sure to donate since they rely on donations!”

“Caged cats are awaiting for vaccination. Shelter depends on monetary donation, visitors are welcome to bring food too. All cats are friendly and clearly like human attention and affection. Some were clearly abandoned by nonresponsible owners as they are good breeds. Volunteers are doing what they can with what they have”

“Cat Beach Sanctuary is essentially a final resting place for rescued cats who previously lived in poor or difficult conditions. The shelter is run entirely by volunteers and supported by donations, and it’s clear the cats are genuinely cared for. Because there are so many cats in one space, sanitation can’t be perfect and the smell may be strong at times. It’s something to be prepared for. However, considering the scale of what they’re managing, the cats appear well-fed and looked after. Most of the cats are incredibly friendly — I’d say about 95% are comfortable interacting with visitors. It’s honestly adorable to see so many cats lounging around peacefully and being given a safe place to live out their lives. If you love animals and understand the realities of a large rescue environment, this is a meaningful place to visit and support.”

Overview
Cat Beach Sanctuary houses dozens of rescued cats — including abandoned purebreds — cared for by dedicated volunteers who manage vaccinations, spaying, and rehoming. Cats are exceptionally friendly and seek human contact. Some are caged temporarily for medical treatment. The outdoor beach setting means sand functions as litter, producing a noticeable smell. Donations and brought cat food are the primary funding source.
