Colonial Penang Museum
📍 Pulau Tikus, Penang
A private museum housing colonial-era furniture, Chinese antiques, and heritage artefacts in Pulau Tikus. Charismatic guides add context to unlabelled exhibits. Dusty conditions and a paid entry fee divide visitors.
This museum definitely comprises one of the finest private collections of historic artifacts. It also contains a significant piece of Penang's history. Entry prices are reasonable at RM30 per person & RM20 for students, considering the amount of history on display, literally. The tour guide ( unfortunately, I didn't manage to catch the name of the man ) was extremely friendly, very charismatic and responsive to questions. Highly recommended for visits for tourists & locals alike.
🏆 Family Action Verdict
Best for families with teenagers or adults who have a specific interest in colonial history or antique furniture. Children under ten will exhaust the space in under ten minutes and find little to engage with.

“Attended a function here. Amazing place to explore if you are into antiques, history, and art pieces. Huge swing and tree house to check out.”

“I can confirm that the museum is currently open, as well as the small shop and the restaurant. The museum is nice and well maintained, however there are nearly no explanations about the origins, age or previous owners of the exhibits. So if you are a fan of antique furniture then this is a good place to come, but don't expect any Penang history lesson.”

Overview
Colonial Penang Museum fills a heritage building with colonial furniture, Chinese antiques, and artefacts spanning multiple eras. The collection lacks individual exhibit labels, so the tour guide's knowledge is essential — ask questions freely. Outdoor balcony sections with additional pieces require shoes, and visitors remove footwear at entry. Some displays are dusty and the visit typically runs under 20 minutes.
