Kellie's Castle
π Batu Gajah, Perak
Kellie's Castle is a striking unfinished Edwardian mansion near Batu Gajah featuring Indo-Saracenic architecture, secret tunnels, and panoramic rooftop access. Stairs throughout make it unsuitable for strollers or wheelchairs.
Very nice place to visit if you are near at Ipoh. Parking is available but needs to pay 5MYR. Kellieβs Castle is quite stunning and really good to get some photos of it. Also have horse to ride on but unfortunately I think it only open for weekends. Some people say that the place very haunted but not really, but sometimes feels eerie but okay - need goes there to feel the vibe there. Staff there was friendly and also ticket need on kiosk and it a good the we doesnβt need to carry a physical ticket to go inside the castle. It is worth it? For first time, yes. But for second time, better for photo shoots only. To appreciate the structure building, it worth to take picture. Overall it best to visit once for lifetime.
π Family Action Verdict
Best for families with children aged 7 and above who can manage stairs and have an interest in history and architecture. The castle's cinematic atmosphere and hands-on exploration β tunnels, rooftop, multiple levels β make it engaging for older children and teens. Strollers cannot access the castle itself.

β1. Interesting when you read about the history of the place a little, beforehand 2. Convenient to book ticket ONLINE on their site, in advance: RM 9 per head. The que can be quite long here 3. Parking lot; site A & site RM 5 Note: do not lean on the wired boundary cable, yes some people do that; bloody risky... 4. Go behind castle, sit in que for guided tram ride #FYI - the ticket is VALID for a whole day (operating hours lah) & its multiple entry hence after day visit you can go out, jln jln then return for evening/night view too π π! (Be safe, buy online ticket so got digital copy)β

βKellieβs Castle is a place you should definitely visit when youβre in Ipoh. The architecture is very beautiful and unique, and itβs an excellent spot for photography with a cinematic, vintage vibe. However, one important thing to note is that the castle is quite far from the city center. If youβre traveling without a car, it can be difficult to get a ride back, so make sure to plan your transportation in advance. Overall, itβs a stunning and photogenic location. If you enjoy taking photos and exploring historical architecture, this place is absolutely worth the visit.β

βKellieβs Castle is definitely one of the must visit historical sites in Malaysia. Parking costs RM5, but thereβs a convenient OKU parking spot nearby, and the pathway leading to the ticketing area is OKU friendly. Unfortunately, the route up to the castle itself doesnβt have a wheelchair or stroller pathway, only stairs, so we stayed below and took photos from there. The staff were incredibly kind and allowed us to walk past the bridge towards the castle, which made the experience even better. Even though it was raining, the view was still beautiful. They also have good coffee available, and there were buskers playing lovely music, adding to the atmosphere. Overall, I really enjoyed my visit here.β

Overview
Built in the early 1900s by Scottish planter William Kellie-Smith and left unfinished after his death, Kellie's Castle stands as one of Perak's most atmospheric heritage sites. The structure combines Moorish and Indo-Saracenic architectural elements across multiple stories connected by stairs. Secret tunnels run beneath the grounds. Rooftop access rewards climbers with views across the surrounding palm landscape. Weekend horse riding is available seasonally. Book tickets online to avoid queues.
