đ Melaka, Melaka
One of Malaysia's oldest mosques, Masjid Tengkera is a peaceful and welcoming stop for families curious about Islamic heritage. Robes are available for visitors, making it accessible for all backgrounds.
Went here after Zuhur before going back to KL. It's an old and legendary mosque but very well taken care of. The mosque is located just beside a road. The mosque is huge but parking can be limited. The design is beautiful and very classic type. The main prayer is cold and comfortable. The mosque is very clean and got nice pool for ablution Most importantly it is very peaceful. It's one of the must visit places if you come to Melaka. Not far from Malacca Town. Just love it

âIt is always a blessing and humbling to pray here. One of the oldest mosques in Malaysia, the history shows with the design and materials originally used. The interior is also very calming and cool, thus making prayers here especially special. Do drop by even for tourists as the mosque provides robes for tourists who wishes to enter but aren't fully covered. For Muslims, a stop for quick prayers will be good for the soul and also for the experience. InsyaAllah.â

âMasjid Tengkera a masjid within a masjid. The mosque was built in 1728 by Muslim traders from India. The mosque was built during the Dutch occupation by Muhammad Salleh. It is said to be the second oldest mosque in Malaysia. The mosque went under renovation in 1892. I did a google search and found an older mosque - Masjid Kampung Laut in Tumpat Kelantan in the 1676, but was later said to be used in 1859 by Sultan Kelantan. The Masjid Tengkera was built by Sumateran, malay communities. What is interesting with the 2 oldest mosques in the country is that they had Minarets that resembled Pagoda like roof, rather than the South Asia and Middle East domed roof. The mosque within the mosque was where the original mosque (renovated) was untouched, and the architect of the existing Mosque built a mosque around the mosque. You can see a picture attached that looks like a round structure. The "new" mosque maintains the traditional wooden built. The Imam's lactern looks unique too with more eastern Asia influences rather than western Asia influences.â
