Muzium & Galeri Tuanku Fauziah
π Gelugor, Penang
A public museum and gallery on the USM campus hill in Gelugor featuring rotating student fine arts exhibitions alongside permanent heritage exhibits including a Wayang Kulit section. Free admission. Best accessed by car.
too good to be true. good job for the student. went here recently for their Fine Arts Showcase 2024 and i love it. i always go to our National Art Gallery as well in KL, and the vibe here almost felt the same. the arts here are mature and pretty well shared the stories of the island, and as Penangites, I can relate well. thank you! looking up for next year exhibition. can't wait to be back π€π»π«Άπ»
π Family Action Verdict
Best for families with older children and teens who appreciate Malaysian art and heritage. The rotating student exhibitions are surprisingly mature and well-curated. Younger children will find sparse hands-on engagement. Plan for 45β60 minutes.

βLocated atop the USM campus, this museum & art gallery is best accessed via vehicleβ¦. you can walk down the βhillβ to other parts of campus after visiting! I find the permanent museum exhibits quite decent though I wish the text will be displayed instead of a mere QR code. I was there to check out the Fine Arts graduating exhibits and was pleasantly surprised by the creatively and quality of work.β

βSmall exhibition floor size, but good showcase of the raw talents of the budding Malaysian artist. The working team was helpful and friendly too.β

βThe museum is well kept and clean. They hold different exhibitions there from time to time, so it was a good experience to visit when you have time. But not much is there to do, since it is a museum and a gallery. Sometimes they have program and activities outside the museum too which you can join (pottery workshop, etc)β

Overview
Muzium & Galeri Tuanku Fauziah sits atop the USM campus hill and is open to the public at no charge. The Fine Arts Showcase draws comparison to the National Art Gallery in KL, with student work that engages seriously with Penang's cultural stories. Permanent exhibits include artefacts and a Wayang Kulit section. Some permanent displays use QR codes rather than printed text β a charged phone helps. Some sections have incomplete or non-functioning displays.
