National Science Centre Northern Region
đ Alor Setar, Kedah
Interactive science centre with indoor and outdoor galleries for children of all ages including toddlers. Entry fees are among the lowest of any Malaysian science attraction.
One of the wonderful interesting places for curious kids to explore and spend their time with so many different gadgets and gizmos displayed at the center. Located at a quite remote area near Gunung Keriang, people will never know its existence as captivating at all. However the responsible organisers make such great effort to promote this place and we can see the results how people flock over to this place every holiday. Just hope they will continue with the promotion and most of all, FIX the broken science displays that only appear with out-of-order cards. It's a great disappointment for them not to be able to try and discover what those broken displays can do.
đ Family Action Verdict
Best for families with curious primary school children who respond to hands-on learning. The low entry cost makes this an easy yes when a quarter of the exhibits are broken â the working ones deliver solid educational value. Toddlers can participate in the simpler tactile displays.

âThis National Science Centre (Northern Branch) is located near the Paddy Museum about 12 km from Alor Setar. It is an interesting and educational place to visit for both the young and the old. There are many types of interactive displays and activities in various themed galleries to try, explore and be fascinated with. The entrance fee is low, between RM1 to RM3 only. Senior citizens, children below 7 years old and the handicapped get to enter for free. It is open from Sunday to Thursday from 8.00 a.m. to 5.00 p.m. It is a nice place for a family outing especially to keep the children's eyes and fingers off their smart phone for an hour or two.â

âGreat to bring kids around, but not so much for adults. The entrance fees are very affordable, RM2 for adults and RM1 for kids. However, sadly many exhibitions are still closed due to avoid spreading covid-19. So many kids running around with smell of sweats đâ

Overview
National Science Centre Northern Region sits about 12km from Alor Setar near Gunung Keriang and covers multiple themed science galleries. The interactive format engages children who can spend one to two hours working through exhibits. Entry is heavily subsidised. Hygiene on frequently touched buttons and handles is a genuine concern raised by multiple reviewers â bring hand sanitiser. Some exhibits have been out of order for extended periods.
