Edit : I just mentioned kill shelter because people here and at social media were talking about it in a way that's too emotional. SPCA is a shelter where you I would adopt anytime another pet if I would have the space. Actually they are trying their best. Well maintainers and organized shelter. Almost all stuff is friendly and helpful. The volunteers doing a great job too. We visited last year and adopted a cat this year. They were were absolute transparent about previous health issues and gave us also much time to choose the right cat. The only thing that's hard to swallow, is their euthanasia policy. Yes they take good care of the animals they have and I agree that people who dump their pets and refuse to neuter their pets are the biggest contributor of the misery of the misery of street dogs and cats. I can't agree on euthanizing healthy animals. But I saw here in Penang also no-kill shelter with obvious sick pets mixed with healthy ones and I had to changes clothes to not make our pets at home sick. While at SPCA sick pets are well taken care of. Don't mean to badmouth others, but explain why I don't boycott SPCA. There are others who are doing an amazing job too. Would encourage friends to adopt pets here for many reasons. We found an amazing family member there! Adopt don't shop!

πŸ† Family Action Verdict

Best for families with children old enough to handle an emotional environment and engage in physical helping tasks. School-age children benefit most from the direct responsibility of animal care. Families considering adoption will get honest, practical guidance from staff.

β€œRecently, my school and I organized a community service trip to SPCA Penang 🐾, where we had the opportunity to contribute to the welfare of animals 🐢🐱. It was an enriching experience, and we learned a lot about the importance of animal care and responsible pet ownership 🏑. A huge thank you to SPCA Penang for welcoming us and for the amazing work they do every day πŸ™. Highly recommend visiting or supporting this wonderful organization! ❀️”

β€œI had the opportunity to volunteer at SPCA Penang for a day, and it was truly an unforgettable experience. The environment was well-maintained, and it was clear that the animals were not only safe but also genuinely happy. Whether you’re looking to adopt, donate, or just spend a day helping out, I highly recommend supporting this wonderful organization. If you’re an animal lover, this is a place where your time and effort can make a real difference! πŸΆπŸ±πŸ’•β€

Overview

SPCA Penang operates as an animal rescue shelter where families and school groups volunteer in practical tasks β€” cleaning enclosures, feeding animals, and socialising dogs and cats. Staff are transparent about each animal's history, making this a genuine adoption resource. The facility is well-maintained and organised. No government funding means donations are especially valued. This is a working shelter, not a visitor attraction.
