1 / 3槟城孙中山纪念馆 Sun Yat-Sen Memorial Centre
📍 George Town, Penang
A focused museum in George Town with five exhibition rooms covering Sun Yat-sen's revolutionary efforts, Nanyang connections, and the Japanese occupation of Malaya. Same entry price for locals and tourists. Some sections in Mandarin only.
Probably one of the best museums I’ve been to in a very long while. A subject that could have been contentious is dealt with in a sober, evenhanded manner. Although the subject of the museum is Sun Yat-sen, the museum is equally good at introducing China in the first half of the 20. century with a back drop of Malaysia and the second Sino-Japanese war. The staff is also very happy to explain the finer points of Sun Yat-sen’s life and actions. At 10 RM this is a steal and an absolute must if you’re in George Town
🏆 Family Action Verdict
Best for families with school-age children and teens who can engage with early 20th-century history. The content is presented with depth and nuance — reviewers describe it as one of the best-handled museums they have visited. Younger children may find the material too advanced.

“It was truly an amazing experience! The five exhibition rooms provide a wealth of detailed information, accompanied by images of Mr Sun Yat-sen, his revolutionary efforts, the Nanyang transportation volunteers, the Japanese occupation, and the subsequent anti-Japanese movement in Malaya. I thoroughly enjoyed the visit and will definitely return in the future. It is an experience well worth the modest RM10 entry fee, and I look forward to sharing it with others!”

“Nice museum, not many tourist & very informative. Best part is that both locals & tourist pays the same $10rm entry fee. Staff was kind to enough to explain briefly what to expect from each sections (5). There was a section mostly written in Mandarin which I couldn’t understand.”

“A clearer presentation on Dr Sun and his revolutions. Bonus hall on the Japanese occupation on Malaya timeline.”
