TGV Cinemas 1st Avenue
π George Town, Penang
TGV Cinemas 1st Avenue Mall operates on the 8th floor with late-night sessions running past mall closing. Staff are particularly helpful with international visitors navigating ticketing machines that require Malaysian phone numbers.
I would like to express my sincere appreciation for the excellent service at TGV Cinemas, 1st Avenue Mall. This was my second visit after trying several other cinemas around the island of Penang, and I can confidently say that this location has become my favorite. A special commendation goes to Sith, who works at the front desk. She is consistently kind, professional, and exceptionally helpful. As a foreign visitor from the United States, payment systems can sometimes be confusing, especially since I primarily use tap-to-pay. Sith made the process seamless and stress-free, ensuring I could easily complete my purchase and enjoy the movie without any inconvenience. Syafiq, who works the ticket check in also did a great job explaining where my movie is and even offered to keep my backpack and grocery bag locked away in a locker. Additionally, her clear and detailed guidance regarding movie starting times and the duration of previews was greatly appreciated. This flexibility allowed me to plan my arrival comfortably and enhanced the overall experience. Excellent customer service like this truly sets TGV Cinemas at 1st Avenue Mall apart, and I highly recommend this theater to both locals and international visitors. Also, very clean bathrooms. I went to all the theaters in the city and I like this location the best because it is also next to the good street food vendors.
π Family Action Verdict
Best for families staying in George Town who want a late-session option or who are visiting from overseas and need staff support navigating local booking systems. The team's willingness to accommodate international guests makes this the most visitor-friendly cinema on the island.

βAfter spending several hours lounging in the fabulous Starbucks I thought to myself, hey Chat, what about catching a movie tonight. So after checking the TGV website I selected a cool looking Japanese manga movie: Jujutsu Kaisenβlate showing. Even though everything else shuts down at 10pm at the 1st Av mall, the cinema stays open way past this hour. I actually bought my ticket from the TGV 'popcorn' stall on the ground level of the mall, via their touch screen ticket machine. Please note, when entering my details on the screen, it wanted me to enter my phone number: I have a UK SIM but the options available for me to choose only offered Malaysia, Nepal, and a couple of other near neighbours. Therefore I asked the employee for assistance and he was very friendly and helpfulβI said to him why do I need to input my phone number just for a cinema ticket? He told me just to 'make up' a Malaysian number, which I did, and hey presto, I finally got my ticket! If I remember correctly, the ticket cost RM20 (Β£3.65). The auditorium was very attractively decorated (in red) with extremely comfy padded seats, and plenty of leg room. It wasn't very busy as it was midweek. I found the screen a decent size and the sound excellent. A very enjoyable film night at TGV. I'll definitely come here again while in Penang.β

βCame here to watch the new Demon Slayer movie and I absolutely loved it! The sound were loud and clear, the place and cinema was comfy and clean, the service was very quick, the staffs are very friendly and nice when I was taking quite some time on choosing what to order before going into the cinema although maybe I have a problem with the toilet (women's) I don't know about the men's but it's kinda cramped and very small so it gets very crowded and hard to squeeze in but that's the only thing I'm dissatisfied about nonetheless I enjoyed coming here!β
