A canopy-level walkway at The Habitat on Penang Hill offering 360-degree views of the city, sea, and hills from above a 130-million-year-old rainforest. Requires a 100-step climb from the funicular summit station.

This place is an extension of Penang Hill and requires an additional entrance fee. Personally, I think it’s worth it, considering the amount of effort they put into conserving and protecting the natural habitat here. The restroom was clean and had toilet paper. We visited before the sunset and stayed until 7:45 pm for the evening walk, which also comes with an extra fee. Our guide, Janice, was very informative, and a couple of other staff members were helpful as well. We saw tiny crabs hiding in between pants, frogs and tadpoles by the water, brown & green stick bugs behind the leaf, and more. It was pretty cool to see how the UV light made some insects and plants glow blue. However, the information about the evening walk was inconsistent between the website, the ticket counter, and the staff at the treetop area. Luckily, we met Janice, who was able to help us get the tickets up there. Overall, we had a great time!

🏆 Family Action Verdict

Best for families with children aged 8 and above who are physically active and comfortable with heights. The views from the top are genuinely spectacular on a clear day and reward the climb. Families with young children or mobility limitations should weigh the 100-step ascent carefully — the viewpoint itself is exposed and can be hot during midday.

ℹ️ What to Know Before You Go

💡Check weather and air quality forecasts before going — haze eliminates the view entirely
Wear a wide-brimmed hat and sun protection — the summit platform is fully exposed
🎟️The entry fee is charged separately from Penang Hill funicular admission — budget both
🚗The evening UV light walk is a distinct experience worth booking separately for wildlife-curious families

If you’re heading to Penang, you absolutely cannot miss the Curtis Crest Treetop Walk at The Habitat Penang Hill. It is an engineering marvel that literally lets you stand head-high above a lush, 130-million-year-old rainforest. Be prepared to earn that view—it takes some genuine muscle strength to conquer the 100-odd steps to the summit, but the payoff is legendary. Once you reach the highest public viewing point on the island, you're rewarded with a breathtaking 360-degree panorama of George Town and the sparkling coastline. For the ultimate adventure, you can even spend the night in a tent under the stars through the Starlight Camping experience, surrounded by the sounds of the jungle. Whether you're there for the workout or the world-class views, it’s an unforgettable experience.

Curtis Crest Treetop Walk was a great and memorable experience, especially knowing you are standing at one of the highest points in Penang. The walkway lets you move above the forest canopy, giving you wide views of the hills, the city, and the sea in the distance. The cool air and peaceful surroundings make the walk even more enjoyable. It feels safe and well maintained, so you can focus on the scenery instead of worrying about the height. It is a unique way to appreciate nature and see Penang from a completely different perspective, which makes the visit truly worth it.

Visited on 23rd December 2025, get to know this from the Miss Hong Kong 2025 video. The tree top walk looks interesting, charges RM60 per entry is slightly high because not many scenery you can see from the tree top. The distance can be longer so that can cover more area to capture more scenery and view. Anyway, the weather is so nice and no clouds, complete blue sky and is good for taking pictures. Tourist shall pay a visit to enjoy the scenery in Penang Hill.

Overview

Curtis Crest Treetop Walk rises above the forest canopy at The Habitat Penang Hill, Malaysia's oldest documented rainforest. The elevated walkway delivers unobstructed views across to the Strait of Malacca, Penang city, and the mainland on clear days. The 100-step climb to the summit is steep and physically demanding. Haze reduces visibility significantly — clear-sky days are dramatically better.
