Galeri Seni Johor @ Kompleks Warisan Sultan Abu Bakar YWJ
đ Sri Gelam, Johor
Free public gallery inside the Sultan Abu Bakar Heritage Complex displaying Johor fine art from 1999 to present alongside historical exhibits. Knowledgeable staff provide guided explanations. Sections are under renovation for Visit Johor 2026.
Free place, no tickets. Small area but quite a lot of modern artwork to see. Outside the gallery is a traditional house. There are staffs curators that help explain the historical value of its items. There's a zapin dance show but we missed out as it ended just as we arrived at 11am.
đ Family Action Verdict
Best for families with school-age children who respond well to guided explanations from knowledgeable staff â the curator engagement makes this far more educational than a self-guided walk through. Free entry removes any financial barrier.

âGaleri Seni Johor offered wide variety of art show. There's plenty of canvas painting displayed from the year 1999 up to 2022. Enterance fee is free, everyone is welcome to visit. Parking is a bit hard to find during my visitation due to some event being held on the compund.â

âIt was a very great experience to have an exhibition here! Half of the gallery were under renovation for Visit Johor 2026 preparation. I was waiting for the Zapin performance but the delayed was too long. I felt a little bit disappointed for not having a chance to watch the performance. Nice place to play a date and have new experience.â

Overview
Galeri Seni Johor houses canvas paintings from across decades alongside heritage artefacts related to Johor's royal and cultural history. A traditional Malay house sits outside the main gallery. Staff curators actively explain the historical significance of exhibits rather than leaving visitors to read labels alone. Live Zapin dance performances occur periodically and without fixed scheduling. Some gallery sections are closed for 2026 preparations.
