1 / 3Johor Zoo
📍 Taman Istana, Johor
Compact zoo with interactive parrot, snake, and lizard sessions, an air-conditioned rest area, and a kids' play zone. Stroller and wheelchair access is sparse — stairs block routes to upper exhibits.
My second time at Zoo Johor. First time was before the renovation in 2018. That time it only costs RM2 per person. Decided to go again to see how much has changed. This time the ticket price rose to RM10. But it is still very affordable. Bought the tickets online to avoid queuing as I went there on a Saturday. The check in was hassle free, only show your IC and scan the QR of your online ticket at the gate. Was wondering though how they were able to take care all the animals with such cheap tickets. Nonetheless, managed to park near the zoo on the roadside. Not much has changed, but still it looks very aesthetically pleasing now. The animals are still the same, but there are a few added animals here and there. Were provided with a map & able to finish touring in an hour with a little crowd. Please wear your sunscreen because there were not much trees to provide shade. Bring your umbrellas and mini fan & get ready to be drenched in sweat 👍🏻
🏆 Family Action Verdict
Best for budget-conscious families with walking-age children aged 3 and up. The interactive animal sessions are the standout — kids get close contact with parrots, snakes, and lizards that larger zoos don't allow. Families with strollers or wheelchair users will miss the upper animal section due to stairs.

“Lot of cute animal! Arrived there around 11am, and took around 1.5hour to complete the whole zoo😆 There is some interactive session with parrot, snake, lizard etc. Cool area. Basic facilities, air conditioning area is there. Kids zone also there to let the child play. All the lion and tiger is sleeping, maybe the weather too hot. Come here just for capybara to be honest, and yes all 3 is adorable!😆😆 There is a small garden where peacock, rabbit and some bird is flying and run around where visitor can have fun with them, good too. Prepare some umbrella and UV if you are puteri lilin.”

“for RM10? hellooooo~~~ this is the best cheapest ZOO everrrr just that not fully stroller and OKU friendly.. some part of places are not accessible via stroller and wheelchair.. i was expecting they kinda add on ramp after renovation to visit higher part of animals to see tigers or giraffe, however there was none. need to climb stairs. overall experience is great. will visit again!!!”

“Zoo Johor is a nice place for a relaxed family visit. The zoo is clean, spacious, and easy to walk around. Animals are well displayed, and it’s enjoyable for kids to learn and explore. Not too fancy, but that’s the charm. Simple, calm, and not overcrowded. Facilities are decent, and the overall environment feels comfortable. Good improvements compared to the past, but still room to upgrade some areas and exhibits. Overall, a pleasant visit and worth the time if you’re in Johor. 👍”

Overview
Johor Zoo packs genuine variety into a compact site following its post-2018 renovation. Interactive sessions with parrots, snakes, and lizards run during the day. An air-conditioned area provides relief between animal sections, and a dedicated kids' zone adds play time. Upper exhibits including tigers and giraffes require climbing stairs — strollers and wheelchairs cannot access these areas. Most families complete the full zoo in 1–1.5 hours. Online ticket purchase skips queues on busy weekends.
