1 / 3Baba Nyonya Heritage Museum
π Melaka, Melaka
A fascinating step inside a real Peranakan family home, best suited for families with older children and teens who enjoy history and culture. The self-guided audio tour lets you explore at your own pace.
Excellent museum in the center of Melaka. This comes with an audio guide of the museum, so make sure to bring your headphones. You can listen directly on your phone via browser, no app needed. The explanation is very well done, it's from the POV of the owners who are still alive, talking about how this is a classic heritage home and what used to happen there in the past. Strongly recommend a visit here!

βIt's really worth to visit this place and see how wealthy people lived here 150 years ago. Ticket is 25RM, you can pay by card. Bring your own headphones, there's a nice audio and text guide through each room, very convenient if you want to learn more about this place. This museum is much better in my opinion than "Pinang Peranakan Mansion" in Georgetown.β

βI love seeing an original home of the Peranakan family, who were very wealthy and influential family. The tx included an audio guide (QR code in each room), so bring some earbuds. The information was interesting and well done.β

βBeautifully preserved antiques and furniture, which showcase this unique culture and identity. Itβs less a museum and more an open house - offering a window into 1920s-1930s Baba Nyonya (Chinese-Malay) wealthy tradersβ life in Malacca. If you love intricate carvings, delicate paintings, and peeping into the lives of others, this is for you. But itβs not a museum - very light on explanation, context, critique. Less than a hour needed (far less for some). But worth a visit.β

Overview
The Baba Nyonya Heritage Museum occupies a combination of three terrace lots acquired by the Chan family in 1861, offering a rare look inside a preserved Peranakan townhouse in the heart of UNESCO-listed Melaka. Visitors follow a self-guided audio tour accessed via QR codes in each room, so bringing earphones is recommended. The museum traces the history of Peranakan culture from the 16th century and connects the story of one family across seven generations.
