National Textiles Museum
📍 City Centre, Kuala Lumpur
A richly curated museum in a heritage building near Merdeka Square exploring Malaysian textile traditions — batik, weaving, embroidery, and tribal costumes. Ground floor is air-conditioned; upper floors are not.
For RM5, this place was an absolute bargain gem! We learned so much and enjoyed it immensely. There's currently a special exhibit in conjunction with the local university featuring their take on textiles. We spent probably an hour and a half, not super long, kinda skim read a bunch, but was well worth it. Learned about the culture through a practical art medium. Great way to break the heat or the rain for an afternoon 😊
🏆 Family Action Verdict
Best for families with school-age children who enjoy hands-on cultural learning and can engage with exhibit text. The affordable entry and proximity to Merdeka Square make it a natural pairing for a heritage half-day in KL. Toddlers and pre-schoolers will find the format less engaging — the content rewards children who can read and ask questions.

“It’s a great place to visit together with Merdeka Square. Although there is an entrance fee, the price is very reasonable, the air-conditioning inside is excellent, and while the museum is not very large in scale, the exhibits are rich and informative. Along with the Islamic Arts Museum, this was a remarkably impressive place. If you are visiting the Merdeka Square area, I highly recommend taking the time to stop by.”

“I actually went during international muzium day so it's free entrance and there's a batik skirt fitting session where the muzium staff help you into a batik and tie it. So you get to take some photos then you have to return the textile. Sadly the muzium lighting is bad for photography and they only allowed you to try batik not other beautiful textile as well”
