Muzium Darul Ridzuan
π Ipoh, Perak
Free-entry museum in Ipoh covering local and Perak history. The standout feature is a 1941 air raid shelter with motion sensors and sound effects behind the main building. Allow one to two hours.
We purposely came here for the Air Raid Shelter. This is the highlight of the museum since my family and I have never experienced anything like it before. My children found it unbelievableπ that the air raid shelter survived WW2. I wonder how many lives were saved because of this air raid shelter. It's the best real-life experience and education spot that allows the younger generations to experience it themselves rather than reading or seeing it on YouTube. I would say the Air Raid Shelter was a hit with the family π
π Family Action Verdict
Best for families with school-age children who have an interest in local or WW2 history. The air raid shelter is the single most compelling reason to visit and works particularly well for ages 7 and up. Entry is free for all visitors, making it an easy addition to an Ipoh itinerary alongside the old town precinct.

βFree entry for all, open daily. Please visit and don't miss the 1941 air raid shelter located behind with motion sensor + sound effects. It is the bomb π£ (pun intended!) Exhibit is simple and minimalist with some interactive musical instruments in the main building, and traditional games in the wooden house on stilts at the back near the underground air raid shelter.β

βYou can experience entering a short tunnel and take pics there. There's also a pondok melayu there, very classic. On the inside, there's Ipoh history with pictures given and some artifacts displayed. Could drop by if you have some time to spareβ

βSmall museum but rich with information. The visit started with a very friendly and informative guide, which made the experience even better. Entrance is free, so it is definitely worth visiting. Inside the museum, visitors can learn about the history of Ipoh, the origin of the name Kinta, and the lives of the Malay community, Orang Asli, and the nobles. There are also replicas of buildings, mosques, and other historical elements. The highlight of this place is the fort located outside the museum. The sound system and design are impressive and make the experience feel very realistic. Overall, it was a really good experience. Looking forward to visiting the other museums in Perak in the future.β
