Arlene House | Kapitan Chung Thye Phin Building
π Ipoh, Perak
Arlene House occupies a colonial-era building with displays covering Ipoh's history through vintage toys, photographs, traditional furniture, and cultural artefacts. A 100-year-old spiral staircase is a standout feature.
A must-visit place when youβre in Ipoh Old Town! The museum displays are all very interesting and diverseβ¦ What I enjoyed the most are the old toys displays that I have never seen before, the unique spiral staircase which I found out was actually over 100 years old and also the beautiful architecture of the building. Thereβs also lots to learn about in the museum. Had a great time here!
π Family Action Verdict
Best for families with children aged eight and above who have an interest in local history or heritage photography. The vintage toy collection engages younger visitors more than standard museum formats.

Arlene House is housed in the Kapitan Chung Thye Phin Building, a colonial structure where the architecture itself is as much the draw as the collection. Displays include vintage toys, old photographs, traditional furniture and cultural artefacts spanning Ipoh's heritage. The spiral staircase has been in place for over a century. Staff offer guided walkthroughs and actively help visitors with photography β posing tips included. Kebaya costume rental is available on site.
