Ipoh Mural
π Ipoh, Perak
Walkable outdoor art trail through Ipoh Old Town featuring cultural murals depicting tin-mining history and multicultural roots. Some artwork shows weather fading. Strong food options throughout the route make natural rest stops.
Wandering through Ipohβs mural trail felt like stepping into a living scrapbook of the townβs soul. Tucked along Lorong Panglima and weathered limestone walls, the paintings echo the cityβs tin-mining heyday and multicultural roots, a revival sparked in the 2010s to rejuvenate Old Town. Children leap across cracked plaster, shop signs glow beneath tangled wires, and heritage shophouses frame every brushstroke. Tourism here is more than photo-taking; it sustains small traders, preserves architecture, and keeps collective memory visibleβproof that art can anchor identity while inviting the world gently in.
π Family Action Verdict
Best for families with children who can walk comfortably for 1β2 hours. The combination of street art, cultural history, and food stops makes a natural half-day outing. Children who enjoy photography and discovery will engage well. Pair with lunch at one of the nearby heritage cafes to break up the walk.

βMost attractions are within a small area in walking distance. There are restored old houses and museums. We visited the one about Chinese herbal drinks and found the content very interesting. There are many restaurants in the area to get a snack and lunch. There is also newer restaurant with the upper floor dedicated to collection of a marshal art master who played in action movies of the 60βs (yes that was way earlier than Bruce Lee and Jacky Chan). The collection includes material for lion dance and equipment for martial art training. It is not a big place but fun to watchβ

βThe mural can be seen as you walked around the area although some have since faded due to wear and tears over the years. But there are plenty of food choices, cafe to enjoy the break.β
